To all members,
As the season approaches, we are starting to get excited in the Turf Care Department for the melt to begin. It has been a very mild winter, with a lot of unusual weather. When I was outside, just for a few minutes, on Feb. 2, it was a beautiful day, definitely could see
my shadow, but it was also +3 C, so it was hard to predict when spring was
going to start, but my guess is around the middle of March like every other year, with a few day cold snap in April. My prediction for opening day this year is Friday, April 20
th but as you all know, the Turf Care Department can be bought (for earlier tee times). We will be working hard to have the Golf Course open as soon as possible.
I would like to invite all applications, for those wanting to work in the turf care department, to get them in as soon as possible. There are always a few positions open every spring. Most require little experience, as training is provided. Starting hours are early but also end early in the day.
The Turf Care Department is in need of some construction materials, both wood and steel, a small want list would include, fence posts, rough or finished lumber lengths, steel piping 2-4” lengths, flat steel of any size, etc. These items are to be used in facility and equipment repair, renovations and improvement projects for the club.
Also, for all of you with a green thumb, we will be accepting perennial plant and shrub donations again, starting April 16th. There is also some tree planting going on in conjunction with the old stump removal. If there is a desire to donate specific varieties of trees, these would be welcome. Coniferous varieties are best.
On one other note, there is a need for a person or persons in the Turf Care Department, who enjoy and understand the requirements of a horticultural maintenance program, for the upcoming season.
Delivery of any items would be appreciated but pickup can always be arranged.
If you have any questions, please contact the Turf Care Department @ 780-539-7188, leave a message
and I will return your call.
Thank you,
Murray Grasdal, Superintendent
